Hauraki Gulf Fishing Report 8th July 2019
It might be a tad nippy leaving port at the moment, but once you’re out wide surrounded by gannets, dolphins, snapper and kingfish you tend to warm up pretty smartly!
While drifting around the Colville Channel and the squiggles north of Anchorite is generally productive for snapper, there is harder and faster action (and many more kingfish) to be had if you do the miles and find the gannets. There has been tern activity at the top of Coromandel which will yield results but be prepared for hordes of kahawai. We have been going further afield and finding proper workups – catching solid snapper and kingfish without the pesky kahawai.
Yesterday was a prime example. We took our time covering the miles at first but it payed off bigtime with great workup fishing by Little Barrier – both boats filling the bins with kingis and snapper and enjoying the dolphin and gannet show.
With boats available, a good forecast for the next week and our winter discount now is a great time to get out there with us.
Cheers
Nick & Jack
