Merry Christmas everyone!
Whether you’ve got kaimoana in mind for Christmas lunch, or you’re simply looking forward to a bit of much needed time on the water, it looks like the next week of weather should allow some good opportunities to get salty.
Kingfish have been biting well, especially on topwater lures. In fact they’ve been out-fishing the livebaits at some spots making for some cool visual action. All the traditional spots are holding fish – not in huge numbers yet but the average size is very good. Remember to fish on the up-current side of the reef or structure as that is normally where the kings will be hanging out.
Snapper have slowed down with their attention on spawning and the workups fizzling out. There’s still bird action to be found north of Tiri and north of the Noises / Waiheke, but the bite times are very short. The snapper will be moving in very close to shore soon in good numbers so it’ll be time to dust off the softbaits and hit the shallows.
All the best
