Ahoy folks,
Spring is signing off and ironically finally we have some spring conditions. We really had a dream run of weather through spring with uncharacteristic winds from the northerly quarter pushing the water temp up meaning the snapper will be spawning very shortly. This also means the snaps will at times be more interested in procreation than feeding. We’ve already seen a drop-off in workup intensity – although there has been some consistent action in areas such as north of Waiheke and around the cable zone between Kawau and Tiritiri. If you get a good day, there is some epic fishing to be had between Anchorite Rock and Great Barrier – with whales, dolphins, gannets, kingfish and snapper all in attendance.
Luckily for us, as the snapper go off the boil the kingfish roam into the Gulf in force. We’ve already had some great sessions at the local reefs fishing livebait – as we always say the kingfish often prefer the real deal so if the jigs or topwater lures aren’t working go grab some wriggling mackerel to tempt them. Unfortunately the sharks are already making their presence felt so try get those kings in quick – easier said than done!
We are almost fully booked up to Christmas, get in touch to lock in a date for the new year.
