Hauraki Gulf Fishing Report 26th September 2019
After a nice spell of settled weather it looks like we’re in for a run of pesky westerlies for the next week. There were a few nice fish about over the weekend, although many found the bite slow – probably due to the lazy bird activity both in close and out wide.
With a ‘super’ new moon on Sunday (when the moon is at its closest approach to the earth) and the big tides associated, we’d expect the fish to be feeding hard later this week and over the weekend. There’s plenty of bait hanging around from the East Coast Bays right over to the bottom end of Waiheke, so you should be able to find somewhere relatively sheltered to catch a feed. Just be wary of travelling when wind opposes tide.
If weather allows, we’ll be pushing out a bit further to target the bigger snapper and kingfish hanging around towards the top of Coromandel and Great Barrier. Good news on the kingfish front is that a few fish are starting to move into the Gulf’s reefs – although it’s still pretty hit and miss until the water warms some more.
Cheers
