Hauraki Express Fishing Report, 5th February

Stuart

It’s all about the pelagics currently. Most of our trips have been targeting kingfish, and they haven’t been hard to find. They’re hanging around all the reefs in both good sizes and numbers.

A bonus is the number of fish close to Auckland – Waiheke and Rakino offering plenty of fish. Stickbaits first thing or live mackerel during the day doing the trick.

An interesting development has been some nice schools of yellowfin tuna turning up north of the Mokohinaus and Great Barrier. So if you’ve never caught one now might be your best chance to find one close to the Hauraki for quite some time.

Snapper are going well over by Great Barrier, but are also around in close proximity to the city. Change of light is the best approach inshore.

See ya out there,

Nick, Jack, Finn, George & George
