Hauraki Express Fishing Report 4th March

Stuart

Hi All,

Summer is over according to the calendar but the fishing is still as hot as the weather. The bulk of our trips have seen us targeting kingfish. The highlight clearly being a huge fish for the Hauraki Gulf caught the other weekend on one of our boats, estimated to be around 40kg!

The kings are still hanging around the anchovy schools by the Noises and Durville Rocks, stickbaits or slow-trolling livebaits in the early morning should do the trick. We’ve recently been taking advantage of the good weather and fishing the wider reefs towards Little Barrier and Horn Rock. If the sharks don’t come ruin the party, there has been some sensational fishing – mainly on the outgoing tide.

Snapper have been around the reefs too, munching down on the livebaits and providing a welcome by-catch. When we have found the workups out in the middle, the snapper bite has been pretty reasonable too. Action has been between Kawau and Anchorite, and over towards Horn Rock.

Enjoy
