Hauraki Express Fishing Report 7th June

Stuart

Congratulations to Mark Synnott who has won himself a Saltist SJ 200H and TD Black Kohga 66HB thanks to our mates at Daiwa.

With the inclement weather there have been few opportunities for a decent fish this past week. However, when you find that weather window the area east of Flat Rock and up to Omaha in 50m is going off. Dolphins, gannets, carpets of snapper and a sprinkling of modest kingfish are in attendance.

There are a few big kingfish lurking around the outer islands but they can be difficult to find through winter. Early morning stickbaiting or quality livebaits will help your chances.

Closer in towards the Noises and Tiri you’ll find pannies sitting underneath the tern workups, or softbaiting the Whangaparoa and Kawau coastlines should deliver.

Also on keen fisher’s radars are squid – the annual influx is currently underway. You can catch them during the day or around the city under the lights through the night. Target the slackwater periods and you might be able to grab some calamari for tea!

It looks like a good run of light winds this week so get in touch if you would like to get out on the water.
